Photo II

During the semester of Photo II (2022), I learned and experimented with many materials and cameras. I did my first film roll and learned how to load it and develop it. While my first photos weren't great, my final project, "Figure as Landscape", demonstrates my growth and exhibits some of my favorite images! Enjoy!

Figure as Landscape

How can a figure create many different feelings? During this project, I wanted to capture figures, heads, and facial expressions as the landscape and main focus of my photo. I tested different lightings, different angles, added props and paint to my figures, and tested many different things in the dark room. I also used different coloring mediums to contribute to some of my photos. My inspiration behind this project was that I wanted to see how a face could express a feeling and how the shadows and contrast can help portray a certain feeling. Here are my five best photos throughout this project. Enjoy!

Here is my regular silver gelatin print. I really like the contrast of the figure's face with the background. It emphasizes the feeling and emotion surrounding the figure.

This is my solarized picture. This gives it an even more creepy and eerie feel to the photo as the figures are black with a glowing outline.

This is my creative photo. I painted on the developer and used colored pencils to add color to the background and figure. I really like how this photo connect with the idea of an artist.

Here is another solarized photo, and I also outlined the highlights with a silver pen. I really like how it brings out the outline of the figure and identifies the space between the figure and the background.

This is a photo I took that I painted with oil paint. I like how creative you can be with the paint and make the background whatever I want. It was fun using different color and painting something that already had a photo on it.
